Although the weekend was
well attended it was disappointing that, despite 3 years’ advance notice, some
did not turn up. We really did miss you! This must be addressed before the next
reunion in 2002 (at the earliest)
However, apologies were
received from Geoff Perrin (Germany), Jim Dale(Australia), Carol Sparham (USA),
Allan Parkinson (Australia), and Alan
Miller (who inadvertently booked a holiday)
Bob Bramble came over
especially for the event from Australia, as did Tom Wood from Canada
Friday night seemed very
formal, I felt very nervous and I know now that others did too. There wasn’t
much time to drink or eat, every available moment was spent talking, catching
up on the past.
On Saturday midday,
cloudy, everybody is outside the Art Block.
Excitement when Messrs Wood and Evans and Loretta Young turn up (late).
Mrs Colyer - undeterred by the long drive from Coventry - agrees to plant the
tree with the Deputy Mayor. She lets go of her walking stick for a few minutes.
She is now 85. Everyone retires to the pub after a VERY short walk.
Saturday night was the
best attended. It is to be hoped that everyone won a prize in our raffle thanks
to discreet interference from Bob Bramble and Terry Goodman. Other teachers in
attendance include Mr Grantham, Miss Woodward, Mrs Ellis. Miss Seegar has lost
none of her personality although she is much frailer. We didn’t dance the night
away as the newspaper reported, we were all too busy talking. Everyone signs a
card for me. Later that evening I am in tears in my room reading every name and
comment on it.
Items of interest ...
displayed on tables in the assembly hall. Luckily the Ross twins Janet and
Jennifer have kept everything. They brought their maroon berets and school tie
and a folder full of neatly catalogued items, including copies of the school
magazine. They also had, incredibly, a seating plan of the coach taking us to Boppard-am-Rhein
in 1964. Linda Kindell supplied a
wonderful photograph of the whole school, taken at the March 1965 prizegiving.
